May 30--More on Wikis
My, my, my. I just keep learning more. I had an idea tonight about a use for the Blog in the classroom. I wish I could get it up and running before school lets out. I would like the students to reflect on the year and pass on advice to the next ninth graders. What they learned, what they would do different, what they wished they could do more of. I had a student who remarked the other day "If I knew I would be using algebra again, I would have paid more attention last year" We all had a chuckle at this and then a serious discussion about how often we hear people say that. MY 30-ish cousin had the same sentiments. I shared with my student that he was ahead of the game and that I hoped they all would take that with them next year and wake up a little more. I think I will share with them a new blog I can create and invite them to join in for the summer...............hmmmm.....we will see where this goes.

I like that idea...think if they could become friends with the people leaving advice, almost like a pen pal that they could go to if problems came up, or if they needed advice. A blog would be a great way for these folks to communicate...cool idea Coop
That is an AWESOME idea. What else can I say. Thanks for sharing. Too bad all of my seniors are gone now. They would definitely have some things to share with next year's students. And I think the novelty of each student reading a blog from one randomly selected student would be cool, too. Like getting your own little fortune cookie. Readers could share the blogs they read, too. Keep it coming Coop.
Tracey...super use of today's technology...the kids would love it. I know that they see little value in their education and this might be a stepping stone to think about the future. What do your daughters think?
Tracie,
I love this idea! Who better for students to learn from than other students?
Cheryl H
What a great idea? With middle school children I think I would have to make give some specific expectations, but what great way to gather qualitative data for my portfolio. As you can tell I have porfolio on the brain because since I was gone for 14 weeks they made me do ASAP...what a long process...thank goodness for the graduate program or I might still be working on it!!!
Too funny! That is what I wrote my lesson plan on...actually it was third graders writing for next year's third graders. I think there would have to be some adaptations for the younger kids and their parents would have to get involved but I too wish there was time to do it this year! :)
Congratulations to Cleo!
